Kelley Cooper is originally from Detroit, Michigan but for grew up in the Scottsdale area. She attended Arizona State University and graduated with a degree in English Literature. After interning throughout college, she pursued a career in public relations and advertising at three different agencies in Phoenix. From there, she went to in-house marketing for the Greater Phoenix CVB and used business skills combined with creativity to promote tourism to our area.
Kelley paused her marketing career to have her three sons and started her own business in retail and event design. She created large-scale, immersive dimensional art specific to each client and location. She was introduced to GreatHearts when her niece and nephew attended since Kindergarten, and her sons followed suit. She volunteered as a room parent, a PSO helper, and when an art teacher position opened up in 2020, the pull back to an artistic career lead her into the classroom.
Kelley is passionate about developing curiosity and a sense of wonder in all ages, and loves to teach art as a way of breaking down the beautiful details in nature, history, and science. She enjoys instructing her students for three years to build relationships with them and unlock their different inclinations towards joy in discovery of creating something beautiful. She aims to use many art mediums with her students for as much exposure and experimenting as possible. She also takes this outside the classroom in our ANP gardens, where she spearheads the garden club and classroom garden projects.
In addition to her own paintings and gardening at home, Kelley also loves traveling, hiking, reading British mysteries, and is an avid sports fan, especially for football. She treasures her time with her husband, three sons, two dogs and two birds.
